It’s the little things that have the greatest impact on how we feel about ourselves and our lives.
Getting a good nights sleep…
Having fresh flowers around the home…
And laughing at a friend’s joke.
These small, daily actions not only help us to feel more happy and relaxed, but they can also boost self esteem.
Another thing that lights us up is giving genuine compliments.
As empathetic human beings, we WANT to feel joy for others. Yet sometimes – in this age of filtered photos and social media highlight reels – our natural response is offset by feelings of jealousy, inadequacy, or self-doubt. Instead of being happy for that person, we begin to play “comparisonitis,” where we use their experience to highlight what we don’t have.
There are many reasons why this isn’t a healthy practice, the primary one being that whether it manifests as you judging them, or you judging you, someone is going to get devalued.
That’s why, whenever I notice the tendrils of envy climbing into my emotional wheelhouse, I deflect those feelings by simply being nice. Rather than judging other women, I choose to celebrate them. And what I’ve found in doing this, is that the more often I help lift other women up, the more confident and satisfied I feel about myself.
Comparing yourself to other people won’t boost self esteem, it won’t change how you feel about yourself, and it won’t help you to make the positive changes that you need to live a life that you love.
No matter how perfect someone else’s life or body may look from the outside, we all struggle with feeling insecure from time to time. And that’s why I would encourage you to help elevate other women by paying genuine compliments.
- Instead of feeling jealous of a friend’s Facebook photo, send them a text or email that tells them how much you like it
- Rather than giving the hairy eyeball to another woman on the street, smile at her warmly
- The next time you see a woman dressed beautifully, or doing something that makes you think “wow”, TELL her
When you empower and celebrate others in the way that you would like them to do for you, you will always be rewarded.
This simple strategy takes less than 30 seconds and will allow you to feel more confident and satisfied in yourself, as well as share those positive feelings with other women around you. Watch the video to learn how to do it.
Once you’ve had a chance to watch, I’d love to hear from you:
- What helps you feel more confident and boosts self esteem?

Here’s your video recap:
Go out and pay a genuine compliment to another woman (and remember that it doesn’t just have to be about appearance).
Then I’ll see you in the next video, where I’ll show you how to ditch the diets once and for all.
